Winter Break Activities: Sparkly Pretzels

Whether you’re throwing a New Year’s Eve party, attending a party, or just having a special night in with the family, fun snacks are a must.  These pretzel sticks are an easy snack that the kids can do.

You will need...

  1. Pretzel rods
  2. White Chocolate (you can also use milk or dark chocolate if you prefer)
  3. Sprinkles

First, you will need to melt the chocolate.  I like to melt mine in a glass bowl over a pot of low simmering water.  I stir it periodically, so it melts evenly.  Then, I lower the heat to the lowest setting and monitor the chocolate as I work.  If you choose this method, you’ll just need to supervise the kids for safety around the stove.

Let the kids take over

I had my kids use a spatula to help spread the chocolate on the pretzel since the bowl of chocolate was too shallow for them to dip the pretzel in. I also like to spread the chocolate almost halfway down the pretzel since the yummy part is the chocolate and sprinkle part.

I selected some gold mix sprinkles and a silver mix, too. You can use any color combo the kids want. We did notice that the smaller the sprinkle, the more easily it coated the chocolate. But my kids love those giant tooth-breaking sprinkles, so I kept them in there.

When they finish sprinkling the sprinkles, we lay the pretzels on a parchment lined sheet tray. My son suggested that we lay the pretzel down on the side with the most sprinkles on it so it doesn't stick to the tray. He makes an excellent point!

And when the chocolate hardens, the sparkly pretzels are ready to eat!  The kids loved making them and love how they taste even more!
