Valentine's Day: Hanging Hearts Decoration

These quick and easy heart decorations are a great project for your kids.  Once they know how to use a stapler, they can make endless amounts of these and hang them all over the house to decorate!

You will need ...

  • Red Cardstock
  • Stapler and Staples
  • Scissors
  • String to hang them
  • Tape, if necessary

Step One

Cut the cardstock into long strips about 1 inch wide.  These can be cut wider if desired.

Step Two

Fold the strips in half.  Make the fold well-creased as this will be the bottom tip of the hearts.

Step Three

This next step is a bit tricky.  For the first heart, you will take the two ends, fold them in, thus creating the heart shape.  Then, take the next folded strip and place the creased end in between the ends of the previous strip.  (See picture).  This will create a stapled heart with the creased end of the next heart stapled to it.

Step Four

Continue on with this process until you reach the desired length of your heart chain.  To end the chain, just close the top heart without adding another folded strip.  You can then staple or tape a string to the top heart so you can hang it.

Now you have a cute heart chain decoration that you can hang up as a Valentine's Day decoration. You can make these in any color pattern and at any length. You could even make a bunch of them and hang them right next to each other and form a great photo backdrop.
