Easy Meatball Subs

I would definitely put meatball subs in the comfort food category.  And there are so many ways to make them that the possibilities are endless.  You also have the option of making everything from scratch or using premade ingredients to shorten the preparation time.  However you choose to make them, meatball subs are great for lunch, dinner, or a Sunday afternoon snack.

You will need ...

  • Meatballs
  • Tomato Sauce
  • Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • Buns
  • Butter

Step One - Prepare the Meatballs

In a saucepan, pour your tomato sauce in and add the meatballs.  Eyeball the size of the meatballs and the size of the buns and decide how many you are going to need for each bun.  Heat the meatballs and sauce over medium heat.

Again, you can either make your own sauce and meatballs, or you can use canned sauce and frozen meatballs.  Either way will still produce a delicious sub.

Step Two - Prepare the Buns

Split the buns in half.  Generously butter both halves on the inside.  Cook them in a pan over medium heat.  They are ready when they are golden brown.  Set them aside.

Step Three

I like to use some crumpled-up foil to help support the sandwiches when they’re in the oven.  So I make the foil supports and then prop the buns in between the foil strips.  Then get the meatballs in sauce and the cheese ready.  Preheat the oven to the broil setting.

Step Four - assemble the subs

First, sprinkle some cheese on the bread.  Then, put the meatballs on the subs.  Next, top the meatballs with sauce.  Finally, top each sub with a generous amount of cheese.

Step Five

Place the subs in the oven and broil them for a few minutes.  Keep an eye on them the whole time to prevent burning.  Once the cheese looks melted and like a blanket on the meatballs, you can remove the tray from the oven.  Serve immediately.  Enjoy!
