The other day, my daughter was watching a show on tv based on popular 80’s novels. The kids on the show were away at camp and they were learning to make a God’s Eye with yarn and popsicle sticks. My daughter immediately wanted to know how to make them. Luckily it was one of those 80’s crafts that I made when I was a kid. I taught her in a matter of minutes and she was hooked.
Tie a double knot with the end of the yarn around the center of the sticks.
Now, it is time to start the pattern. Hold the sticks in one hand and the strand of yarn in the other. Make sure the tail of the yarn is in the bottom left quadrant. Next, bring the yarn tail up and over the center of the X to the top right quadrant. Then, bring the yarn tail over and behind the stick so that the yarn tail ends up in the bottom right quadrant and behind the popsicle stick. After that, you will rotate the X clockwise until that yarn tail is in the bottom left quadrant.
Repeat this process until you have achieved the size that you want.
Finally, snip the end of the yarn. You can leave it loose since it will be on the back of the God's Eye.
And there you have it! A quick yarn craft that the kids can make and hang up as a decoration. If you do not have yarn with multiple colors on it, you can always use different solid colored yarns. Just tie the different yarns together when you want to change the color. Be sure to keep the tie on the back of the God’s Eye.
