DIY Halloween Decoration - Witch's Cauldron

There are many ways to re-create a witch’s cauldron as a Halloween decoration.   This one requires just a few items, most of which you likely have easy access to.  The best part is that it also takes very little time to put together.  When you’re finished, you have a nifty looking decoration piece that every kid will love to look at.

You will need ...

  • Plastic Cauldron
  • Battery Operated Fairy Lights, 1 strand*
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Fake Spider Webs**

*NOTE: you can use any color you prefer. I happened to have green ones on hand so that's what I used.

**NOTE: If you cannot get the fake spider webs, you could also use poly fil (from the craft store) or maybe even cotton balls.

Step One

First, tear off a few pieces of foil and loosely stuff them into the cauldron.  Keep an empty space for the battery pack.  The foil is to help the lights reflect and appear brighter and more of an even glow.

Step Two

Next, insert the battery pack into the cauldron.  Be sure to place it in an easily accessible spot as you will need to turn it on and off as needed.  Then, coil in the fairy lights in a random way so the light looks like an all over glow.

Step Three

Once the lights are all tucked into the cauldron, fluff up the cotton and create a round disk shape.  Place the cotton on top of the fairy lights and tuck the edges into the cauldron.  This should look like the steam that rises from the boiling potion.  Feel free to pull on the cotton to create wispy and light areas.  This helps it look more realistic.

And that's it! The entire project is done in a matter of minutes. And you are left with a fun decoration for Halloween that didn't cost you a whole lot.

NOTE: to cut costs you could also place a few battery-operated candles in the cauldron instead of the fairy lights.
