Easy DIY Fall Glass Luminaries

With Thanksgiving approaching, you may be looking for easy DIY crafts to entertain your kids with.  This easy glass luminary is a fun one for them to get creative and design their own fall decor.  With just a few supplies, the kids can create beautiful decorations for your Thanksgiving table.

You will need ...

  • Empty Drinking Glass or Glass Jar
  • Tissue Paper in fall colors
  • Glitter, optional
  • Mod Podge or Craft Glue
  • Foam Brush

Step One

It is important to start with a clean glass.  So clean and thoroughly dry the glass you will use for the project.

Step Two

Cut or tear tissue papers into smaller pieces, about 1 inch.

Step Three

Paint the outside of the glass with the mod podge or glue.  Then, place the tissue papers onto the glue in a patchwork kind of pattern.  Overlapping is ideal because it will create other colors.  Continue until the entire outside surface is covered.

Step Four

Then, gently brush glue onto the tissue paper to seal it.  Be careful for the areas that are not glued down to the glass (where the tissue is overlapping onto dry tissue).  Those areas might want to roll or scrunch up.

Step Five

If you choose to add glitter, carefully dust it onto the layer of mod podge or glue.  If you prefer, you can brush another coat on top of the glue just to seal it in.
