Healthy DIY Taco Seasoning

In our house, it’s not just Taco Tuesday.  We have tacos a lot because it’s one of the few meals everyone eats.  I knew taco seasoning packets included a lot of extra sodium, but I didn’t realize it had a few other ingredients that were not so healthy for us to be consuming so often.  Because taco night was not going away any time soon, I decided to make our own taco seasoning.  That way we could control what we were eating.  It has worked out well and we haven’t gone back since.

You will need ...

  • Chili Powder, 3 T
  • Paprika, 2 T
  • Ground Cumin, 2 T
  • Garlic Powder, 2 T
  • Onion Powder, 1 T
  • Oregano, 1 T
  • Salt, 1 1/2 tsp
  • Pepper, 1 1/2 tsp
  • Arrowroot, 1 1/2 T

Add to 1 pound of ground beef

Step One

Measure out all the spices.

Step Two

Brown your meat in a pan over medium high heat.  Once completely cooked, drain off as much of the fat as you can.

Step Three

Then, add in all the seasonings and stir to combine.  Pour in about 3/4 Cup of tap water and stir together over medium heat until the sauce thickens.  After about 3-5 minutes, remove from the heat and assemble your tacos!

Enjoy!
