Kids seem to love drawing on things. Sidewalk chalk is one of the few situations where its totally ok. And at our house, when the sun comes out, the chalk comes out. With this little trick, the chalk drawing suddenly become more vibrant and stunning.
You will need ...
Chalk
Water
Container
Sidewalk
Step One
Soak the chalk in the container of water for about 10 minutes.
Step Two
Remove the chalk from the “bath.” Fill a few tiny containers with water. Have the kids draw with the soaked chalk, dipping the chalk into the water before each stroke. This will keep the chalk wet enough to ‘paint” the sidewalk.
A few notes ...
When drawing with regular unsoaked chalk, the designs will not be as bright. The wet chalk makes the drawings bold and brighter.
The wet chalk does make the chalk more concentrated so it will run out quicker. My son found this out when he ran out of the color he was using. So give them a heads up so they can plan ahead.
As a bonus, the chalk lasts longer, too! As long as the rain doesn’t come.
