Easy Mother's Day Card: Paper Flower Pot

Here is a cute picture that your kids can make out of paper.  These paper flowers in a gardener’s pot make a great Mother’s Day card.

You will need ...

  • Brown Construction Paper
  • Flower-colored Construction Paper
  • Green Construction Paper
  • Colored Cardstock for background
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Writing Pen
  • Teardrop shape for a stencil

Step One

Draw out a pot and include a mirror image of the pot on top.  You can draw the perforated line to help the kids know where to fold it, or you can just help them fold it in half later.  Cut the shape out.

Step Two

Draw a tear drop shape onto a piece of cardstock or scrap paper.  Use this as a template.  Trace out nine tear drop shapes onto the “flower-colored” paper.  Cut them out.

Step Three

Next, cut out the stems and leaves from the green construction paper.  I cut the stems using the shorter side of the paper.

Step Four

Next, make the flowers.  Each flower has three tear drop shapes.  One in the center that stays the same and another two which will be folded in half.  Glue the folded shapes to the center shape, one on each side.  The folded edge goes in the center.  I angled them slightly to give it a more realistic look.

Step Five

Fold the pot in half with the open flap facing towards you.  Then, lay out the flowers, stems, and leaves how you want them to end up.  This helps to give an idea of where things need to go in order to all fit together.  If the stems are set too wide, they won’t fit in the pot.  If the flowers are not staggered slightly, they will overlap.

Step Six

Once everything is laid out to your liking, start gluing.  Be sure to glue down the “bottom” items first. For example, glue down the stems and leaves first.  Then the flowers because they need to go on top of the stems.  Lastly, glue on the pot since it needs to cover the stems.  Remember to have the flap opening towards the front.

Step Seven

The final step is to write your message inside the pot. Remember that this card could be used for more than just Mother's Day. It works great for teacher appreciation day. Or for sending some cheer to someone.
