Easy DIY Mother's Day Card: Paper Tulips

Mother’s Day is just around the corner.  Make this easy paper tulip card with supplies that you likely have around the house.  If you already have a Mother’s Day card, this one also works for Teacher Appreciation Week!

You will need ...

  • Printed Cardstock (if you do not have printed cardstock, then scrapbook paper works, or you could just draw some designs on white cardstock).
  • Flower-Colored Cardstock
  • Green Cardstock
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Ribbon (optional)

NOTE: I love working with cardstock so I happen to have a lot of it on hand.  If you do not have cardstock on hand, you could use construction paper, or even computer paper that you could color yourself.

Step One

Take the printed cardstock and fold it in half lengthwise.  This is the vase for the flowers.

Step Two

Cut three long strips of green cardstock.  This will be the stems of the flowers.  Glue them onto the right side of the inside of the printed cardstock.

Step Three

Draw a teardrop shape onto a piece of scratch paper.  Use this as a stencil.  Draw 9 teardrop shapes onto the flower-colored cardstock.

Step Four

Cut the teardrop shapes out.  These will be the petals for the flowers.  Each flower will need three petals.  One is in the center, and the two on the sides will be folded in half.

Step Five

Now, create the flowers.  Lay one petal down. Glue one folded petal on the left side, and then the other folded petal on the right side (flaps are facing out).  I put them at a slight angle as you can see in the picture.

Step Six

Next, glue flowers onto stem tops.  Stagger them so that they all fit nicely.

Step Seven

Write your message on the opposite side of the flowers.

Step Eight

If you have a ribbon, glue it to the middle of the printed cardstock.  Leave the “opening” on the side of the card.

Step Nine

Tie the ribbon on the side.  Now you’re card is good to go!
