Valentine's Day: Sweet DIY Card
When I was growing up, my mom always bought me a box of conversation heart candy every Valentine’s Day. This is a sweet Valentine’s Day card that you can make yourself! Because no Valentine’s Day is complete without conversation hearts.
You will need ...
- Red Cardstock Paper
- Cardstock Paper in Various Colors
- Cellophane Gift Bags
- Pencil
- Red or Magenta Fine Point Marker
- Glue
- Scissors
- Silver Marker (black will work, too).
Step 1
First, take one piece of red cardstock paper and fold it in half.
Step 2
Next, draw a heart in the middle of the paper (be sure to position it like a card and draw the heart on what would be the "front" of the card).
Step 3
Carefully cut the heart shape out.
Step 4
Then, take the cellophane bag and place it over the cut-out heart. Draw an outline of the heart leaving about a half inch border. Carefully cut out the heart. When you cut out the heart, you should end up with two identical pieces of heart shaped cellophane.
Step 5
Take one of the pieces of heart-shaped cellophane and glue it onto the side of the card with the cut-out heart to make a covered window.
Step 6
Draw a small heart onto a piece of the cardstock. Cut this heart out and use it as a stencil to make more small hearts.
Step 7
Then, cut out all of the small hearts. Be sure to have a good variety of colors.
Step 8
Next, take the fine point marker and write messages on the hearts. These messages can be whatever you want them to be.
Step 9
Once the hearts are done, it's time to put them in the card. Lay the card face down with the "inside" of the card facing up. Lay the conversation hearts down on the window with the messages facing down (very important that they are facing the correct way).
Step 10
Next, use the glue stick to connect the second cellophane heart to the card. This seals in the hearts. I also applied some pieces of tape for added sealing.
Step 11
At this point, you will take another piece of red cardstock and cut it in half. This half piece will be glued to the back of the window to close it off from view.
Step 12
Once the red piece of paper is stuck to the inside of the card, it should look like this. This will ensure that any messages written on the inside of the card are not visible through the window when the card is closed.
Step 13
Finally, take a marker and add the details to the outside of the card. This helps make it look even more like a box of candy hearts.
And then you’re finished! You have a sweet Valentine’s Day card that brings back the nostalgia of the classic conversation hearts.
