Thanksgiving Decorations

It is always such a let down in our house to go from the explosion of Halloween decorations to the minimalism of our Thanksgiving decorations. But I like to take a break from all the clutter and sort of let the house breathe for a bit. We also have two birthdays during this month (and you KNOW we decorate for birthdays!), and Thanksgiving. Both situations involve quite a bit of clutter around the house. So, the minimalism of this decor is quite welcome.

The entryway takes on a bit of an outdoor theme with the tree, leaves, and lanterns. I am not a fan of orange, so I try to bring out the burgundy colors of fall instead. I used to hang the leaves at the top of the railings, but then I realized leaves are usually at the bottom. Putting them on the bottom of the railing looks much better.

The candles in the lanterns are a bit more yellow in the picture. But they are definitely a warm white. I find that the warmth adds to the cozy feel of fall. These birds came from several different places, but most came from Target. I feel like they have new designs for them each year. I did consider putting down some leaves under the birds, but I felt that would be a bit too cluttered. Again, my goal is minimal clutter.

The rest of the decor keeps with the minimal, warm, rustic feel.  The needlepointed pilgrim and Native American children are from my mom (she is a needlepoint addict).  My kids enjoy playing around with them, despite our house rule of “do not touch the decorations.”

What is Thanksgiving decor without turkeys, right?  These came from Target as well, over several years.  They are the cutest and add a fun little touch.  And it is pure luck that the unfinished wood table goes with the natural colors of the decor.

These decorations will need to suffice until the Christmas decorations make their way in.  As my son said, “I’m just waiting for the Christmas stuff to come out.”  One holiday at a time, kid.
